Pronoun in Hindi:Definition & Types

Pronoun is very important in English Grammar, because the use of Pronoun is very much in colloquial language, so today we will understand well about Pronoun, what is Pronoun in the end, Definition of Pronoun, How many types of Pronoun are there and will understand the types of all Pronouns very well.

                          So let's begin:-

Definition of Pronoun :- The word which is used in place of Noun is called Pronoun.

“Pronoun means for – a noun.”    - Wren & Martin

“A pronoun is a word used instead of a noun-equivalent.”     - Nesfield

For example- He, They, I, You, Them, His, Her, Mine etc.

“Vikas is my friend. Vikas is a good boy. Vikas is going to school now, and Vikas's father is a farmer. Vikash's mother is a housewife. "

As you can see, in these sentences, the sentence does not look good due to the repeated use of the name Vikash, it seems like a bad sentence,

Therefore, to prevent any noun from being used repeatedly in sentences, we use pronouns,

The main function of a pronoun is to prevent the noun from recurring in a paragraph so that the sentence is better to read, speak and hear.

Now if we write the above sentences with the help of pronoun then something like this will happen:-

"Kundan is my friend. He is a good boy He is going to school now, and his father is a businessman."

In this sentence "he" and "her" are being used instead of kundan so that the word "kundan" (which is a noun) does not come again and again.

The word or phrase that comes in place of a pronoun is called an antecedent of the pronoun. In the previous example, the root noun 'development' is antecedent and the pronoun 'He' is a referent because it refers to the original noun. The antecedent and pronoun must agree in terms of number and gender.
